DSL Expresse™

ASSIA inc.'s DSL Expresse™ Spectrum Management Center software implements Dynamic Spectrum Management (DSM) Level 1 functionality to automatically monitor and optimize entire DSL networks. Using the management interface described in the ATIS Dynamic Spectrum Management TR (DSM TR) and ASSIA's unique and patented expert systems algorithms; DSL Expresse™ dynamically adjusts line parameters to improve DSL performance with no interruption of customer service. It also automatically identifies and classifies line troubles, enabling proactive response by the service provider before the customer reports trouble and improved efficiency of field personnel. Integrated into the DSL Provider's Operations Support Systems (OSS) and Customer Care Centers with a flexible North Bound Interface, DSL Expresse™ supports the service provider's specific workflows, loop inventory and service models. Optimization of DSL services provided by any DSLAM or Remote Terminal is supported by DSL Expresse™'s extensible DSL network element interface.

DSL Expresse™ - Architecture

DSL Expresse™ is a modular system with a core architecture that supports integration of ASSIA's unique DSM algorithms with the customers' DSL network elements, OSS and operations work flows. DSL Expresse™ is designed for ease of integration with each customer's environment and extension to support deployment of new and upgraded equipment, service models, and the evolution and enhancement of ASSIA's technology for Dynamic Spectrum Management.

DSL Expresse™ - Key Features

Key Feature Description
Expresse Optimization and Diagnostic Functionality
DSL Expresse Performance and Service Enhancement (PE)

  • PE functionality provides proactive and reactive diagnosis of DSL Service problems and degradations
  • PE remedies problems either:
    • Automatically via reconfiguration of the DSL line.
    • By requesting action by the carrier's higher level operations flows to repair the detected problem.

DSL Expresse Upgrade Recommender (UR)

  • UR issues reports of lines suitable for higher tiers of service based on:
    • Carrier's service models.
    • DSL PHY Layer.
  • Used to enhance revenue by 'up-selling' customers.

DSL Expresse DSL State Transition Machine (STM)
  • STM performs proactive analysis of the DSL services to optimize per line performance.
  • STM gathers information periodically from all loops and reprofiles the lines to optimize the performance based on:
    • current and historical information
    • the carrier's DSL service models.
Core Expresse Architecture
DSL Expresse Device Manager (DM)
  • DM is the interface between the Network Elements (DSLAMs, and RTs), their EMS, and Expresse.
  • DM implements a middleware package the hides the details of the NE and EMS MIBS, transactions and communications protocols from the internal functions of Expresse.
  • DM is extensible to allow support for any DSLAM or DSL. RT using the standard-based interfaces of the ATIS DSM TR.
DSL Expresse Workflow Manager (WM)
  • WM coordinates and schedules all internal processing within Expresse.
  • WM allows rapid customization to meet carrier's individual requirements.
DSL Expresse Integration API (I-API)
  • I-API provides the basis for all interactions between the customer's OSSs and personnel and Expresse.
  • I-API is XML based for integration with minimal changes to existing carrier OSS interfaces.
  • Expresse GUI (GUI) - This is the human interface to DSL Expresse. It allows web-based access to the API.
